Did You Know?

Commencing with the June 1972 edition of the Helvetia Newsletter, a monthly Did You Know column was introduced. Edited by Michael Rutherfoord, our member in Zurich, these articles contain snippets of topical news and views from Switzerland, and include information about many diverse subjects, such as postal rate changes; railways and TPOs; postmarks; reviews of books and other philatelic publications; new stamp and postal stationery issues; changes to the postal system, and many many more.

The articles have been converted into portable document format (PDF), and grouped in year order.

To view these Did You Know articles, click on a 'year' button below to open the PDF document containing the monthly entries for that particular year.

Between 1972 and 1986, Michael included a monthly "Question", with the "Answer" appearing the following month. The questions are sequentially numbered to enable easy location of the corresponding answer. However, the numbering differs from that found in the original copies of the Helvetia Newsletter (HNL), where a miscalculation in the sequence was discovered whilst converting the documents to PDF.

Michael continues to write his monthly DYK column for the Society. If you would like to keep up-to-date with what's happening philatelically in Switzerland, and read other interesting articles published in current issues of the Newsletter, please contact the Society's Hon. Secretary on 01296 621159 or email: secretary@swiss-philately.co.uk
